Product Detail This gene encodes an enzyme, consisting of two identical proteins, which catalyzes the isomerization of glyceraldehydes 3-phosphate (G3P) and dihydroxy-acetone phosphate (DHAP) in glycolysis and gluconeogenesis. Mutations in this gene are associated with triosephosphate isomerase deficiency. Pseudogenes have been identified on chromosomes 1, 4, 6 and 7. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants. [provided by RefSeq]

DISEASE:
Triosephosphate isomerase deficiency (TPI deficiency) [MIM:190450]: Autosomal recessive disorder. It is the most severe clinical disorder of glycolysis. It is associated with neonatal jaundice, chronic hemolytic anemia, progressive neuromuscular dysfunction, cardiomyopathy and increased susceptibility to infection. Note=The disease is caused by mutations affecting the gene represented in this entry.

    磷酸丙糖异构酶在糖酵解中具有重要作用,对于有效的能量生成是必不可少的。磷酸丙糖异构酶被发现存在于几乎所有的生物体,包括哺乳动物、Insect、真菌、Botany和大多数细菌中。
    如果人体缺乏磷酸丙糖异构酶,会导致严重的神经系统紊乱,该病症被称为磷酸丙糖异构酶缺乏症。
