Product Detail background:
The protein encoded by the KCNK16 gene belongs to a family of potassium channel proteins containing two pore-forming P domains. This channel is an open rectifier which primarily passes outward current under physiological K+ concentrations. This gene is activated at alkaline pH and is expressed predominantly in the pancreas. Several alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.

Function:
Outward rectifying potassium channel. Produces rapidly activating and non-inactivating outward rectifier K(+) currents.

Subunit:
Homodimer (Potential).

Subcellular Location:
Membrane; Multi-pass membrane protein

Similarity:
Belongs to the two pore domain potassium channel (TC 1.A.1.8) family.
