Product Detail background:
The two G protein-coupled receptors GPR7 and GPR8 display high similarity to each other. They both show high expression in brain and in particular in hypothalamus, and have been characterized as receptors for neuropeptide W (NPW) and neuropeptide B (NPB). In response to NPW and NPB, they play a role in the regulation of feeding behavior. GPR7 deficient mice develop an adult-onset obese phenotype that progressively worsens with age and is exacerbated when fed a high-fat diet. The genes encoding human GPR7 and GPR8 map to chromosomes 10q11.2-q21.1 and 10q13.3, respectively.

Function:
GPR7 interacts specifically with a number of opioid ligands. It is a receptor for neuropeptides B and W, which may be involved in neuroendocrine system regulation, food intake and the organization of other signals, and has a higher affinity for neuropeptide B. It has been reported in brain, mainly cerebellum and frontal cortex, and in the pituitary (O'Dowd et al., 1995). The mouse ortholog of GPR7 was shown by in situ hybridization to be expressed in discrete nuclei of brain, namely suprachiasmatic, arcuate, and ventromedial nuclei of hypothalamus.

Subcellular Location:
Cell membrane; Multipass membrane protein.
