Chlamydia felis can be cultured in chicken embryos or cell lines. It is difficult to detect feline chlamydia by culture method because conjunctival swabs contain only a small amount of bacteria, and antibodies in tears may also have an impact during chronic infection; culture methods are time-consuming and complicated to operate. The PCR method is an in vitro enzymatic synthesis method of specific DNA fragments. It is more suitable for detecting feline chlamydia. Its sensitivity is higher than the culture method, and it has strong specificity and fast detection speed, which can be completed in only two or three hours.

猫衣原体可以在鸡胚或细胞系中进行培养。用培养法检测猫衣原体较为困难，因为结膜拭子中只含有很少量的菌体，并且在慢性感染时眼泪中的抗体也会造成影响；培养法较为耗时，操作也比较复杂。PCR法是一种体外酶促合成特异性DNA 片段的方法,更适合检测猫衣原体，其灵敏度高于培养法，且特异性强，检测速度快，只需两三个小时即可完成。

本试剂盒针对16S-23S rRNA基因区间序列设计引物，可以特异性识别猫衣原体，经BLAST验证，与其他生物基因组没有交叉反应。本试剂盒检测了9种不同的衣原体，和可能引起类似症状的20种细菌和4种病毒，未发现非特异性信号；在源自不同动物的405个衣原体阳性样本中，仅在10个猫样本中发现阳性。可见本试剂盒适用于猫衣原体的检测和鉴定。
