    天蚕素(cecropins)是第一个被发现的动物抗菌肽,1980年,由Boman等从天蚕蛹中分离得到。该类多肽抗生素一般含有37~39个氨基酸残基,不含半胱氨酸,其N端区域具有强碱性,可形成近乎完美的双亲螺旋结构,而在C端区域可形成疏水螺旋,两者之间有甘氨酸和脯氨酸形成的铰链区,多数多肽的C端被酰胺化,酰胺化对其抗菌活性具有重要作用。天蚕素(cecropins)对革兰氏阳性菌、部分革兰氏阴性菌具有很强的杀伤力,而对真菌和真核细胞没有毒性。目前研究认为,抗菌肽是最具潜力的抗生素替代品之一。而天蚕素又是目前研究比较清楚的抗菌肽。
天蚕素抗菌肽利用N端所带的正电荷与原核细胞的The cell membrane磷脂双分子层密集的负电荷静电相吸,C端柔性的插入疏水区,在两亲性α-螺旋作用下,在原核The cell membrane上形成4nm的离子通道,离子通道的形成改变了The cell membrane内外的渗透压,The cell membrane内物质大量外渗,致细菌细胞死亡,起到杀菌作用。天蚕素抗菌肽对细菌、病毒、念珠菌、原虫、癌细胞具有广谱的活性,能抑制革兰氏阳性和阴性球菌和杆菌,如绿脓杆菌、大肠杆菌、伤寒杆菌、痢疾杆菌、布氏杆菌、金黄色葡萄球菌、溶血性链球菌等等,并对感染Botany的多种病原菌也有明显的杀菌作用。另外,天蚕素抗菌肽对高度耐药的伤寒杆菌、耐药性金葡菌同样敏感,对感冒、疤疹病毒能抑制其繁殖,对疟原虫、痢疾阿米巴均有效
