Mycoplasma turkey can be transmitted from the upper respiratory tract, air sacs, penis, semen, cloaca and The sinuses are isolated. Swabs or exudates can be cultured on mycoplasma agar and broth media containing arginine, and colonies may take up to 7 days to appear and eventually develop a typical omelette appearance: small, flat, rough center. Bacteria can also be identified using serological tests including growth inhibition, metabolic inhibition, and immunofluorescence, where immunofluorescence is effective even in mixed cultures. Serological methods often encounter difficulties due to the large antigenic variation among strains of M. turkey. Using the PCR method has higher sensitivity and specificity, and the detection time is short, and the results can be obtained in just a few hours

PCR identification, primers verified by BLASTIt specifically targets Mycoplasma turkey and has no cross-reactivity with the genomes of other organisms. This kit was used to detect 17 Mycoplasma turkey strains and isolates, as well as 16 other avian mycoplasmas, and only Mycoplasma turkey strains and isolates produced specific amplification bands. 火鸡支原体可以从上呼吸道、气囊、阴茎、精液、泄殖腔和鼻窦分离出来。拭子或渗出物可以在含有精氨酸的支原体琼脂和肉汤培养基上培养，菌落可能需要7天才能出现，并最终形成一个典型的煎蛋外观：小而扁平，粗糙的中心。也可以使用包括生长抑制、代谢抑制和免疫荧光在内的血清学测试方法来鉴定细菌，其中免疫荧光即使在混合培养物中也是有效的。由于火鸡支原体的菌株之间抗原变异较大，因此血清学方法常常遇到困难。而使用PCR法则有更高的灵敏度和特异性，且检测时间短，仅需几个小时即可获得结果。

火鸡支原体PCR检测试剂盒选取了16S rRNA基因的一段序列进行PCR鉴定，引物经BLAST验证为特异性靶向火鸡支原体，与其他生物的基因组无交叉反应。使用本试剂盒检测了17种火鸡支原体菌株和分离株，以及16种其他鸟类支原体，仅有火鸡支原体菌株和分离株产生特异性扩增条带。可见本试剂盒具有物种特异性，可用于火鸡支原体的鉴定和检测。
