Mycoplasma Iowae is an avian mycoplasma that can be isolated from chickens, turkeys, and many other birds . Compared with other avian mycoplasmas, it has some different properties, such as: resistance to bile salts, prone to occur in the gastrointestinal tract, strong resistance to many antibacterial agents, and a very large degree of antigenic variation between strains. The main manifestations of natural infection with Mycoplasma Iowa are the death of turkey embryos in late hatching and leg abnormalities in chicks. In experimental infections, some strains cause embryonic death in chicks and turkeys and, depending on the route of infection and the age of the bird, joint and skeletal abnormalities and occasionally airsacculitis. In turkeys it is primarily transmitted through eggs, but can also be transmitted laterally. The fallopian tubes, semen, and cloaca of mature birds are sources of infection.


Chickens and turkeys against Mycoplasma Iowa The humoral response is very weak, so serological methods are not suitable for detection, and in vitro culture methods are often used for diagnosis. In vitro culture method is a classic detection method, but it takes a long time. The use of PCR method has higher sensitivity and short detection time, and the results can be obtained in only a few hours.


Iowa Mycoplasma PCR Detection Kit Selected A sequence with unknown function was identified by PCR, and the primers were tested by BLAST was verified to specifically target Mycoplasma Iowa, cross-reacted only with Mycoplasma fermentans, and had no cross-reactivity with the genomes of other organisms. This kit was used to detect 16 species of avian Mycoplasma and 14 isolates of Mycoplasma Iowa. All isolates of Mycoplasma Iowa could produce specific amplification bands, while all other mycoplasmas gave negative results. It can be seen that this kit is species-specific and can be used for the identification and detection of Mycoplasma Iowa.

衣阿华支原体（Mycoplasma Iowae）是一种鸟类支原体，可以从鸡、火鸡以及其他许多鸟类中分离出来。它与其他鸟类支原体相比具有一些不同的性质，如：耐胆盐，好发于胃肠道，对许多抗菌剂的抗性较强，菌株之间的抗原变异程度非常大等。衣阿华支原体自然感染的主要表现是孵化晚期火鸡胚胎的死亡和仔鸡腿部异常。在实验性感染中，一些菌株引起小鸡和火鸡胚胎死亡，根据感染的路线和鸟的年龄的不同，还可以引起关节和骨骼异常以及偶尔发生的气囊炎。在火鸡中它主要是靠卵子传播，也可以进行横向传播。成熟鸟类的输卵管、精液和泄殖腔是感染的来源。

鸡和火鸡对衣阿华支原体的体液反应很弱，因此不适合使用血清学方法进行检测，对其诊断常采用体外培养法。体外培养法是经典的检测方法，但耗时较长，而使用PCR法则有更高的灵敏度，且检测时间短，仅需几个小时即可获得结果。

衣阿华支原体PCR检测试剂盒选取了一段功能未知的序列进行PCR鉴定，引物经BLAST验证为特异性靶向衣阿华支原体，仅与发酵支原体有交叉反应，与其他生物的基因组无交叉反应。使用本试剂盒检测了16种鸟类支原体和14个衣阿华支原体分离株，衣阿华支原体的所有分离株都能产生特异性扩增条带，而其他支原体都为阴性结果。可见本试剂盒具有物种特异性，可用于衣阿华支原体的鉴定和检测。
