Biological activity
Cytorelaxin D is used in actin polymerization studies and cytological studies. Cytorelaxin is a mycotoxin characterized by a high substitution of hydrogenated isoindoles, which fuse with a large ring. They are thought to bind to the spiny ends of actin filaments, thereby inhibiting the binding and separation of subunits. Cytorelaxin D is 10 times more effective than cytorelaxin B and does not inhibit monosaccharide transport across the cell membrane. Cytorelaxin D treatment rapidly phosphorylated the tyrosine of fish (SH3PXD2A) and activated Src. Cytorelaxin D has been shown to increase intracellular Ca2+ levels and activate the p53 dependent pathway, leading to cell cycle arrest. It also acts as an inhibitor of DNA synthesis, thyroid secretion, and growth hormone release.
