PubMed PubMed Product Detail Neurogenin-3 (NEUROG3) is expressed in endocrine progenitor cells and is required for endocrine cell development in the pancreas and intestine (Wang et al., 2006 [PubMed 16855267]). It belongs to a family of basic helix-loop-helix transcription factors involved in the determination of neural precursor cells in the neuroectoderm.
Function:
Involved in neurogenesis. Also required for the specification of a common precursor of the 4 pancreatic endocrine cell types.

Defects in NEUROG3 are the cause of diarrhea type 4 (DIAR4) [MIM:610370]. DIAR4 is a characterized by severe, life-threatening watery diarrhea associated with generalized malabsorption and a paucity of enteroendocrine cells.

Ngn3属于bHLH家族蛋白,是胰腺发育过程中短暂表达的蛋白,可能是胰腺内分泌细胞系的定向因子,一般在成熟胰岛中不存在。
Ngn3的表达会导致胰腺内分泌细胞数的增加外分泌细胞数的减少。因而胰岛β细胞并不是完全靠Stem cells分化产生,主要是通过已分化胰岛β细胞的分裂增殖。
但近年来,有学者认为:Ngn3虽在胰腺发育中短暂表达,但是否存在使胰岛Stem cells或前体细胞自我更新的能力尚未明确定论。Product Picture
